subject: What Are New Zealand Track Days? [print this page]

New Zealand offers one of the best all round experiences you can have in any country. With superb scenery, awesome activities and a lot more besides, you won't run short of things to do while you are there.

New Zealanders tend to like their sports too, so if you are the sporting kind you can choose from lots of different kinds they take part in on land and in the water. For example think about jet boating, bungy jumping and hiking up the nearest peak. What more could you ask for?

Actually if you love driving you could ask for a lot more than this. Track days offer a chance to enjoy driving in New Zealand in a very different way indeed. You will need to have your own vehicle to take part, but this is the only prerequisite to trying out a very different kind of driving.

We all have those moments when we think we'd like to drive faster or harder and really put our cars to the test. Of course we can't do that on the road. If we did we would put ourselves and other innocent people in harm's way. This is how the concept of track days first came about.

The idea is simple. Track days give you the opportunity to really test your skills without having to worry about breaking the rules of the road. Instead you will go off road usually onto a proper track, hence the name and drive there instead. You will still need to be careful and attentive to your surroundings of course, as other people will be driving on the same track at the same time too.

You may also see track days that are focused on bikers rather than car drivers. This gives you the chance to ride your motorbike on a purpose built track instead of on the road, so you can enjoy a whole new experience here too.

Needless to say you still need to exercise caution when you try out a track day in New Zealand. For instance it is important to pay proper attention to all the rules and safety information you will be told about before you get started. If the cars or bikes need to be stopped for some reason you must obey these orders.

Most times you will simply have the chance to enjoy a different day of driving instead of getting out onto the open roads in New Zealand. While you should be prepared for anything such as a windscreen crack for example the thing you should be prepared for the most is to simply have a good time. After all, this is what track days are all about.
