subject: Types Of Vacuum Cleaners - Bagged, Bagless, Robotic... [print this page]

The vacuum cleaner market has diversified itself in recent years with many new technologies taking over the market, leaving you with more options to consider when purchasing a new vacuum. The question, of course, is which type of vacuum you should now purchase.

This answer depends on your personal factors including where you are planning on using it and your budget. There are three basic categories of upright vacuums today: bagged, bagless, and robotic. There are also canister vacuums to consider, but i will not cover those today.

Bagged vacuums are still the most popular type of vacuum on the market. For one, bagged vacuums give you the benefit of filters, which are now better thane ver thanks to HEPA filters which filter 99.97% of harmful particles out of the air. You also face much less dust exposure because the debris scooped from the ground remains in a closed bag. The only disadvantage to bagged vacuums is that you still have to purchase replacement bags when yours fill up. This is a small added expense that you will incur regularly.

If you do not want to bother with vacuum bags, you should buy a bagless vacuum cleaner. To empty out the debris collected, all you need to do is dump a removable canister into the trash. However, this will expose you to dust in the process, so if this is a major concern you should look for another option. Bagless vacuums will need to be dumped very often though, so don't think that they require less maintenance than bagged vacuums.

New to the market in recent years are robotic vacuums, which use sensor technology to clean your floors without bumping into your furniture. They can start and stop themselves and even work on a regular schedule, meaning you will not have to be at home to have your floors cleaned. These have performed fairly well, but are relatively new, so if you want proven performance I would not choose this option.

Regardless of the type of vacuum you choose, I'm sure you will enjoy the clean rooms that result from using it.
