Being in the home remodeling business I have come to realize that home owners are in the dark about granite countetops. Most do it your selfers and contractors could remodel a kitchen mostly by themselves but there is that one item that requires a sub contractor. That is where the granite countertop guys come in. Here is the inside scoop on how to get those nice stone countertops. You need to start with a plywood sub deck. This goes on top of your cabinets. This is normally 3/4" plywood. Your cabinets should be perfectly level. Once your subdeck is in you can start getting bids for fabrication and talking to granite guys. Prices can vary by $1500.00. You can always bargain with them on price and upgrading edge details. You will need to purchase the correct number of slabs. Be sure to go over seam layout with them before they leave. Bad seams are the biggest complaint in the industry. You can buy slabs from any slab yard and your granite guys will pick them up, although they may charge a fee for this. Once your granite is cut and polished you should have an install date. Make sure you are home of this in case there are any problems they can fix them right away. The granite is glued down with spots of silicone, once it is set it can be impossible to move. Normally they will ask for 48 hrs of dry time before you hook up your sink and install appliances.About the Author:
