subject: Setting The Mood Through Design [print this page]

Setting out to change the room not feeling the decorations that use to be in there? You need to keep in mind that the way you decorate the room will change the mood of a room. The whole feeling of that room can be either ruined or made just right by picking out the right combination of items and colors that you bring into it. Remember when you go about changing a room that you won't really know if you've made it just right until you have someone over and see how they react to the design.

Depending on what feeling you were trying to get the reaction that your guests have will let you know if you have failed or succeeded in bringing the right mood. If you're looking for a formal area but have a guest that seems to relax and want to kick back you have failed in the attempt of getting the right mood into that location.

The mood set is not the same for every room in your home you don't want anything in the bedroom but a mood of relaxation and calm. You do this by using softer colors that will bring in a calm feeling when you look at them, and don't crowd the room with too many things either. On the other hand a kitchen is one where you want more energy coming from the design. By using brighter colors you can feel a nice boost of energy whenever you walk into that room.

Color schemes are not the only thing that you need to keep in mind when bringing a mood to a room. But also keep in mind what you add as accessories to the room, and if it goes with the style you want it to be. If you have a modern style you don't want to throw in anything that looks like it should go into a country style. This will add a feeling of the room being off, or out of place. Make sure you stick to one style of design when you do a room.

One of the biggest things which can help to affect the ambiance of a room in a positive way is the rug that is placed in the room. The rug in a room can not only set the color scheme for the room but help to bring a sense of warmth and comfort to the room. Rugs are generally soft and this can help someone feel more comfortable in a room which they are spending time in.

When you go to set the mood by your design, you should keep in mind what the use will be for the room. Don't make a kitchen have a relaxed mood that makes you want to nap, as well as making the bedroom into a room where you feel a bunch of energy. Placement of the right colors and objects in the room will finish off a room nicely, or completely throw it off kilter. So pick with one design and stick with it, make that mood of the room perfect.
