subject: Home Security Cameras-cheap, Effective Security For Your Home [print this page]

With all the problems in the economy and the housing market, home ownership is at all time high. Nearly 60 percent of all Americans own their own home. And while mortgage rates are low, home ownership expenses are high and seem to never cease.

Home security seems to always take a back seat to everything else you need. With homes costing north of $200,000.00 on average why would you not spend some money to protect your home from home invasions or burglary?

Nearly 20 percent of all homes are burglarized on an annual basis. And homeowners make it easy for the bad guys to get in with 60 percent of all burglaries occurring through unlocked doors and windows. I mean come on folks!

There are some things you can do for free or at little cost like joining or starting a 'neighborhood watch' program, trimming potential hiding places around lower level windows and doors, putting up a sign that warns of a vicious guard dog, or installing some motion activated spotlights. These are all good first steps in protecting your home.

Burglars do look for these kinds of things when they are casing a neighborhood. They want the easiest homes they can get into and they believe it or not they don't want any opposition. So even minimal things that you can do will give them second thoughts. One of those things is to install a security camera.

A security camera sends a message to would be burglars first that the home is not a pushover; second that the occupants are watching what's going on; and last if they are dumb enough to burglarize the house chances are their picture will be memorialized forever.

Security cameras are not as expensive as they used to be. There are probably eight or nine models less than $100 and a dozen or more under $150.00. You can get a four channel system for less than $400.00

Most home security cameras have indoor and outdoor capability and most have night vision capability some with vision up to 150 feet away. Most are fully weatherproof, color cameras that come in bullet style or dome style models. Some have very high resolution making for excellent picture quality.

When are you getting one?

The uses for a home security cameras are endless. There are home, office and business applications. Undercover law enforcers and government agencies have been using them for years but now they are priced so low that anyone can get one. And easy to use? You bet.
