subject: Aotea Center New Zealands Finest Concert Hall [print this page]

Auckland is a city that has lived under the mesmerizing effects of lava ridges and volcanic mountains since its birth. Home to a wide Asian community as well as the largest population of Polynesian people; this slightly off-center city gives off a minor vibe of being unsure of its exact place in the modern world. Retention of traditional Kiwi culture and a bid for unbridled urban planning gives the city a unique stamp in a country that as a whole is orderly and clear-cut.

Constructed in 1989 the Aotea Center is currently New Zealand's biggest concert hall. Built in the western end of Aotea Square by renowned architect E. Wainscott, it's stated that influence for the design of the building was garnered from Finlandia Hall situated in Helsinki. After much controversy and delay this cultural centre finally opened its doors to the pubic in 1990 after having spent a whopping 128.5 million New Zealand dollars. Built as a low building, this centre also houses a sculpture of the Earl of Auckland in Aotea Place.

A state of the art performing centre, it is fitted with splendid facilities, world-class technology, and a modern yet unique design that was built to seat over 2200 people. Not only used as a place for the aesthetically inclined to showcase their talents, this centre is also used for exhibitions, meetings and conferences. The three airy foyers, two dominant theatres, gallery space and numerous rooms make it a perfect place for these functions. The bigger of the two theatres is the "ASB Auditorium" which can seat over 2250 people, where as the smaller of the two - The Herald theatre - has a seating capacity of about 180 and is usually put to use by the smaller theatre companies that are also independent companies.

When considering hotels in Auckland NZ it's always wise to choose the best out of the best, and that is exactly that The Langham Auckland offers. Elegantly chic and timelessly graceful, this distinguished hotel holds a special place among other Auckland hotels. Noted for its five-star hospitality and luxurious surroundings, it can be described as a "haven of tranquility" set in the midst of a bustling city.
