subject: Make Sure You Pay Attention To The Details When Buying A Used Car [print this page]

Buying a used car is an age old trade, not only are we able to get a decent deal but many people find that when they buy a brand new car that they depreciate rapidly and can struggle to regain some of the costs when it comes time to sell their car. Obviously buying a new car means the car will be in pristine condition and have that lovely new car smell but theres no reason why a used car has to be any worse off or less than what you expect in buying a car.

Buying a used car may have the connotations of dodgy car salesmen but a lot of car dealers these days are the best place to go when buying a new car, as they have shaken their old image and now have a greater understanding of matching customers to their ideal cars. As well as this many people opt to buy from independent sellers, this can be a better choice as you wont get the hard sell you may do when visiting a car dealership.

It is still important to considered carefully before you buy a used car as there can be hidden problems that could mean you can negotiate the price down or raise warning signs that you should walk away. Signs of tampering around the milometer or visible welding points could indicate the car is older or more dangerous than it appears.

When viewing any car you should make sure you pay particular attention to the condition of the car, slight scratches and dents may only be visible when you get right up close or view from a certain angle. You should always view a car during daylight hours and preferably when the car is dry because rain and other weather can mask visible damage to a car leading you to believe that the car is in better condition than it truly is.

Considering indicators like this can help you when negotiating a price for the car and you should be aware of all aspects of the car, this extends to taking the car for a test drive. All sellers should allow you to drive the car around a bit to get a better idea of how it handles, if you notice anything such as difficulty changing gears or an excessively loud engine then this could mean that if you were to buy the car then you would likely need to spend even more money on repairs too.
