subject: Killer Introductions-amaze The Audience With Your Public Speaking [print this page]

Public speaking is a huge part of business and life in general. One of the key parts to any speech is having a killer introduction that really grabs your audience and makes them sit up in their seat when you begin to speak. Here are a few public speaking tips to show you how to deliver those killer opening lines.

When you start your speech, let the audience know exactly why you are here.

Announce yourself confidently by trying something like..Greetings lady and gentleman. Today I am here to tell you a little bit more about...

This will immediately grab their attention and let them know that you mean business and that you are an expert on your chosen subject manner (even if you really arent).

Follow that up with some humour. One sure way to get to the heart of your audience is by appealing to their lighter side. It will clear any cobwebs that may have formed over their minds during the previous presenters speech. This will also show them that you have a great sense of humour and that you dont take life too seriously. Ive yet to meet a person that wasnt attracted to a good sense of humour. Remember, when you are presenting to an audience, you are basically selling yourself to them. Humour is a classic way to do this.

Finally, finish off your introduction by pointing out what you are going to deliver in the remainder of your speech. Try something like So today, well cover the following powerful points..., and give a quick summary of what you will be teaching them.

These are the key steps to really grabbing your audiences attention with your introduction. Remember, this is the stage in your speech where you either win them over, or you can lose them forever.
