subject: Tron Legacy - A Summary And What To Anticipate [print this page]

Tron has become somewhat of a cult classic, dating all the way back to 1982 when it was first released. While meeting mixed reviews, the viewer's themselves have given it mostly praise. The plot follows a hacker called Kevin Flynn, played by the prolific Jeff Bridges, who is taken to a virtual world inside computers. Here, he's forced into gladiator matches against other programs, where only the toughest survive. Uniquely done and so far, never done again, Disney has announced their sequel, due for release this year under the name of Tron Legacy.

Here's a quick summary of the expected plot and what to expect from this sequel.

Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) has been trapped in a computer world for twenty-five years now. His son, Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) is trying to find his father, but falls into the same trap and gets pulled into the same world. Together, they fight in gladiatorial arenas with their lives at stake, trying to find a way out of this increasingly more dangerous world. Olivia Wilde and other actors return to their old roles for this sequel.

As you can see, it follows proudly in it's predecessors footsteps and even maintains many of the original actors. This gives it the authenticity it needs and provides a lot of credibility. Disney is sure to do well with this one and fans of old will remember the original and either love it or hate it, as is the way.

As the world is a computerized one, Joseph Kosinski is the ideal choice. His work in computer-generated imagery is well-known and he has a brilliant portfolio for creating depth. Disney's own faith in him must be well-placed as they've also hired him for a remake of Logan's Run.

Due for release in the winter holidays, December 2010.
