Southwell Horse Racing Handicapping at Bet on Horses: WITH Thursday's three jumps fixtures already abandoned in Britain and Ireland and inspections planned for the all-weather cards at Lingfield and Kempton, racing is at least expected to take place at Southwell, the remaining meeting of the day.

Southwell's clerk of the course, Roderick Duncan, said the card was certain to go ahead, with determined trainers from across the country making their way to the fibresand track on Wednesday afternoon.

Duncan said on Wednesday afternoon: "I'm absolutely confident we'll race tomorrow. We had substantial snowfall early this morning and we set to work clearing the track.

"We then began clearing the public areas and access roads at 6am and they are now clear. We've had horses galloping today and all the reports we've had are that the ground is riding well."

Southwell Horse Racing Handicapping at Bet on Horses

Kempton and Lingfield's 'all-weather' race meetings on Thursday have been called off due to a potential shortage of ambulances at the courses.

Southwell goes ahead, but Saturday's card at Ffos Las, featuring the Welsh Champion Hurdle, has also fallen victim to the freezing weather conditions.

Saturday's fixture at Leopardstown, near Dublin, and Monday's meetings at Taunton and Ayr are off.

It is likely there will be no jump racing over the next seven days.

Thursday's meetings at Ludlow and Huntingdon were earlier victims of the big freeze.

Lingfield's Thursday card was one of the additional fixtures provided by the British Horseracing Authority to make up the shortfall, along with Southwell (Friday) and Kempton (Saturday).
