Some golfers try to align everything with the target! Do You Align Your Club face? A common mistake is improper alignment. Others square their shoulders parallel to it. Some golfers try to align everything with the target! They are all wrong. The correct way to align your shots is to always begin by first assessing your target from behind the ball. This will give you a perspective of the entire hole and help you aim right where you want the ball to go. Second, before you make your actual stance, set the club face behind the golf ball and align it directly at the target. Do all this before you get into your stance. PGA Pro players have a knack for aligning the club head in this fashion. Watch how they do it next time you tune in. Once you have the right club face alignment, situate the rest of your body. Most players benefit from aligning their lower body left of the target line and their upper body parallel to the target line. There is actually no right answer as to what works best for you, however aligning your body directly at the target rarely works. Doing so usually leads to crossovers and over-the-top swings. Keep your body aiming left of the target line. Experiment with what works best for you. Be sure to align that club face first!

Do you change your stance? You might assume that your stance needs changing, depending on the club. Not true! When it comes to full shots (not pitches, chips or putts), maintaining a consistent stance is critical to becoming a better ball striker. There are also minor adjustments in spine angle, ball position and stance width. How you stand over an iron should not be very different from how you situate yourself with your driver.
