subject: Motley Crue Tickets - Appearing At Sonisphere [print this page] Our favorite "motley crew" is joining the Sonisphere Festival lineup next summer, along with a quaint gathering of other metal masters. Iron Maiden, Rammstein, Alice Cooper, Iggy and the Stooges, Anthrax, the Cult and Slayer are also scheduled for the U.K. show (and together the group sounds like a wily bunch of mates that you wouldn't want to invite over to grandma's house).
The Sonisphere Festival is slated to take place between July 30 and Aug. 1 next year and is bound to attract hordes of heavy metal gurus intent on joining in a bit of the head-banging action. For more information and to get Motley Crue tickets online.
It's hard to really define Motley Crue in one sentence, but perhaps their name says it all. This seedy-looking gang of heavily tattooed guys sporting leather pants, vests and long, straggly hair really gave executives in the music industry an eye opener when they first appeared on the scene in the 1980s. They were the "bad boys" of the rock/metal genre, a rebellious group of dudes notorious for their out-of-control drug habits, scandalous encounters with groupies and relationships with high-profile, celebrity girlfriends.
With rocker Tommy Lee at the helm, the band quickly rose from the underground L.A. cult music circuit to become a big name arena act within a matter of a few years. "Looks Could Kill," a single from their sophomore album Shout at the Devil, became an instant MTV favorite, exposing Motley Crue to a mainstream audience.
That was just the beginning of the group's shenanigans, as they really started gaining recognition during the latter part of the decade with their albums Theatre of Pain and Girls, Girls, Girls. The latter album dropped during the group's heightened substance abuse phase and debuted at No. 2 on the charts, with the title track becoming a Top 40 hit.
After Nikki Sixx's near-death experience after an overdose of heroin, the bandmates were forced to put their act on hold while they entered a drug rehabilitation center. Apparently sobering up gave new inspiration to the Crue members as they released Dr. Feelgood in 1989, which shot directly to the top of the Billboard charts. Along with the title track, "Kickstart My Heart," "Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)" and "Without You" became popular singles off the record.
Unfortunately not all was harmonious in the lives and lifestyles of the band members (if you can imagine that). In the early 1990s the bandmates argued over the direction of their sound and album Generation Swine failed to produce any singles. Tommy Lee was arrested for spousal abuse against his wife Pamela Anderson and was ordered to spend a year in jail, effectively halting Motley Crue's rise to the top of the charts. He subsequently left to start his own music project, Methods of Mayhem.
Although the band ultimately went on hiatus in the early 2000s, with each member pursing solo music ambitions, they did reconvene for a concert tour in 2004 and released a set of brand new material in 2008. These days, Motley Crue still puts on a show that is anything but wholesome, and that's the way fans want it.
