subject: Learn About A Home Theater Installation [print this page]

These days there are many different types of home theater systems. Whether it is just adding on to your television or having a special room set aside for video games, movies and sports you can install the system yourself, but there are a few steps to take for a successful home theater installation.

Figure out how much space you have in the room that you want to get a system for, knowing this will help you in the store to buy a size that fits your space. Figure out the seating arrangement in the room and where cords can be placed that will not be in the walkway or blocks your vision of the television.

Also, do not keep any cords draped across traffic paths in mind. Consider running them on the bottoms of the walls, or getting floor rugs to cover them and prevent tripping hazards.

Measure the wall and seating arrangement ahead of time then drill holes for speakers. The floor sub-woofer should rest right in the middle of the seating area. Having got this settled, you can move onto the speakers which may be hung or put on a table or on a stand.

The left and right speakers should be placed on their appropriate sides, equal distances apart and facing the television. They can be hanging or placed on tables or stands, it depends on what kind came with the system. The rear sub-woofer should be situated behind the seating and the forward should be situated behind the television.

It will take a little time to install but it will pay off in the end. Ask the sales associate when you buy it if you have any installation questions for a number to call. Some stores offer discounted or free installation if you are unable to hook it up yourself. There are specialists that can also walk you through a step if you are confused. When you are done you might want to mark the cords on either side so you know where they hook up in case you need to move it later. It makes it a bit easier that way.

Instead of just attaching everything right when you return home, take a moment to read through the booklet once through so you will understand how it is set up and make the home theater installation easier. Enjoy your new home entertainment system and all that comes with it! You do not have to buy the most expensive system, just one that will work for you.
