The 12 Debts of Christmas Part Four
The 12 Debts of Christmas Part Four

Joy to the World! The end is near

I've bought too much again

and every debt

has swelled beyond control

and they just keep piling on

and they just keep piling on

and each debt after debt keeps piling on

I can't believe, my bills are overdue

No heat or hydro for me

I'm cold and in the dark

I still have stuff to buy

and they keep on wanting more

and they keep on wanting more

and they all just keep on wanting more

You can actually save cash during the Christmas season. Some of them might take a little more will power and the other ways to save just make sense. Every time you go out shopping is another time you are falling deeper into debt. I've compiled a couple tips that will help you this December and in the coming year. You can learn how to manage money and stay debt free these holidays.

HOLIDAY DEBT TIP 7: Have a Dry Holiday

For a lot of us, the best part of Christmas is sitting near a warm fire all toasty warm while sipping on a spiced hot chocolate or rum and egg nog. Other people find a glass of wine is a wonderful accent during a terrific turkey dinner. As well as Christmas Day, most of us attend parties at work and social events with friends where there will be alcohol. It can all be great but at the end of the day alcohol can be very expensive. Perhaps the solution should be to limit how much alcohol you drink or to have a dry Christmas altogether. Being the designated driver can be fun. However, if you decide to be festive limit how much you have. By the time the season is over you will have saved plenty of money that could go towards more important things. The other positive side is you get to laugh at the friends that get tipsy and start hanging from the chandelier.

HOLIDAY DEBT TIP 8: Track Your Progress

By now you should check how you've done. You've (hopefully) made your list and checked it twice. Hopefully some of your financial goals have been met and you have stuck with your game plan. It's time to be certain and review what you have done.

Have you stayed on budget?

Have you paid all of your bills in advance?

Have you started saving?

Are you lowering your living expenses?

Did you look for coupons?

Have you met some of your financial goals?

If you can say yes to all of these, way to go! You are on your way to knowing how to manage money. Unfortunately too many people often find it hard to reach their goals and fall short. Don't fret. By completing just one of these tasks you have vastly improved the chance of being debt free next year. Keep going with those positive results. If you have fallen short then it may be time pull up your socks a bit and get moving with your game plan. There are just a couple days left but that's lots of time to make your dreams into reality. Go back to your list and make it happen!

For my next post there will be another holiday song for you to sing with family and friends and a couple more tips on how to manage money and remain debt free in the New Year!
