subject: I Put My Champagne Skirt Over The Zentai [print this page]

With Stephanie's tenth wedding anniversary approaching in August 1993 she faced the problem of what spider man costume to wear. But there was only one answer to that question...her zentai, making its SIXTH appearance!

"I always wanted to celebrate our tenth anniversary in style with a Viennese ball!" says Stephanie. "So a year before our anniversary I began planning the party, which we held in a marquee in a friend's garden.

"A month before the big night I began to panic about what I could wear. I really wanted to show off my zentai again but I also wanted a big full skirt. In the end I bought a champagne skirt and wrap, and set about experimenting. I put on the white costume zentai and criss-crossed the wrap across my bodice and around my neck. Then I put my champagne skirt over the zentai and hitched it up to different levels. I looked like a Southern Belle!

"When Dan and I danced my skirts swayed and it was one of the happiest moments of my life. It was perfect to celebrate ten years of happy marriage in the same costume zentai I started out in."

The costume zentai rested for 18 months until February 1995 when her brother Gerard, now 32, married his second wife Nan, 37, and Stephanie again wore her costume zentai - now making its SEVENTH appearance.

"I wanted it to be totally different, especially as Gerard's first wife had been married in it, so I went for a red belt and red shoes, a white jacket and a fuchsia-and-white hat trimmed with a white tulip. When Dan and the other guests saw me, they said, 'Good grief, you've done something different again with your costume zentai!'"

Stephanie, now 42 and studying for a degree in counselling, hasn't planned an eighth outing for her spandex zentai ...yet. "But there's no way it's going into retirement. Who knows, maybe one day Freddie's fiancee will want a zentai - or she may want to have it made into a christening gown."

TELL us the story of YOUR zentai. Did you wear it time and again? Or perhaps you passed it on to your daughter for her big day. Maybe you brushed tradition aside to marry in an outrageous costume zentai or wacky circumstances.
