Kangaroos live in different habitats from forests and woodland areas to grassy planes and savannas.

The kangaroo is a national emblem of Australia.

There are four type of kangaroos. The four species are

1.Red kangaroo

3.Western gray kangaroo

4.Antilopian kangaroo

Kangaroos are actually strange creatures. Early European explorers described kangaroos as creatures that had heads like dear, stood erect like men and hopped like frogs.

The hind legs of the kangaroo are very powerful. Its feet are large and adjusted for leaping.

The large muscular tail of the kangaroo assists it to balance its body.

The female kangaroo has a inimitable feature, which is the pouch it has in front of its body which is called the marsupium.

Kangaroos are herbivorous. They feed on a array of plants and sometimes on fungi.

Tree kangaroos live above the ground in trees.

Larger species of kangaroo tend to shelter under trees or in caves or rock clefts.

Kangaroos are hunted for meat and the skin. Kangaroo meat is high in protein, zinc and iron. Australia exports kangaroo meat to more than 55 countries and it is considered as one of the finest game meat.

Some Kangaroo skins are traded as furs while some are sold for the leather.

Different species of kangaroos have different diets.

Kangaroos have a very few natural predators. One main predator of the kangaroo which was the thylacine is now vanished. The other predators of the kangaroo which are now extinct are the marsupial lion, megalania and the wonambi. Selected of the prevailing predators of the kangaroo are the wedge tailed eagle, and other raptors, the Australian local dog known as dingo, foxes and feral cats.

Kangaroos are adept swimmers. The kangaroo habitually flee into waterways if possible and is pursued into the water; large kangaroos use its forepaws to hold the predator immersed as if to drown it.

New born marsupials are called joeys. The joeys crawl through the mothers fur and climbs into the sack.
