subject: Distance Learning. Assessing The Evident Pros And Cons [print this page]

Pros and cons of distance learning are closely associated with the opportunities and basic skills of a person who faces the choice of traditional education, or distance learning. In fact, distance learning is close to self-education, however, minimal control is present, and the tasks should be accomplished in time. Distance learning principles are based on the opportunities of group control of the people, who are geographically located in various parts of the world. In fact, it is not an easy task, and you should be ready for loose control from the side of a tutor. Hence, you will have to rely on your own responsibility and discipline.

Pros and Cons of Distance Learning

Pros and cons are very subjective, and they require the close assessment from the perspective of education effectiveness. The aspects of effectiveness, in their turn, closely depend on the matters of self-discipline and determination to study and self-improve. Hence, the factors which define the effectiveness of the study are as follows:

Impossibility to have the personal contact with a tutor

Impossibility to feel the atmosphere of a group and discuss the accomplishment of a task with the others

Impossibility to train the theoretical knowledge on practice if it is a communication or rhetoric course

The pros of distance education that are linked with flexibility and opportunity to study everywhere are closely linked with self-discipline, as a person should be motivated sufficiently in order to study in any surrounding without getting interrupted. In the light of this statement, motivation plays one of the key roles in self-education; however, people should think over the actual aims of their choice to study. If you have selected the wrong course, or it was selected for you by someone else, you will lose you time and money for nothing.
