On the one hand they are right, on the other hand they will just spend their time for nothing, if it finally occurs that they dislike researched and do not wish to start a scientific career. In fact, the actual importance of this choice is explained by the opportunity to learn how to self-educate. Hence, people study to be self-organized and responsible for their own actions.

How to assess whether it is for you or not

Ask yourself several simple questions in order to define whether scientific career suits you:

What are your actual aims in life?

How will the grade help you achieve these aims?

Are you ready to spend sleepless nights writing your research paper?

Whether it is your own decision?

Now ask yourself some questions in order to define whether you suit for starting a scientific career:

Do you appreciate constant studying?

Will you be able to sacrifice you personal life, hobbies, and interests for the sake of science and researches?

What if your research project will not be estimated by the world scientific community? What will be your reaction?

Do you really believe that your research will be useful?

These are the rhetorical questions mainly, however, you should be able to answer all of them in order to have the definite answer whether the post-graduate study and further scientific career will suit you. In order to make the proper choice, you should consider all of them.
