subject: Nikola Tesla and the Wardenclyffe Tower [print this page] Nikola Tesla was a genius of the early 19th century. Born in July 10th 1856 in the modern day Croatia, Tesla was a renowned electrical and mechanical engineer of his time. During the prime of his life, Tesla pioneered the field of electromagnetism, alternating current electric power system, polyphase electrical distribution system and many more.
During his time, Tesla has the characteristic of a mad scientist. Due to a sickness, Tesla would see flashes of lights in front of him from time to time. It was from these flashes, many of his crazy ideas came into mind.
When Nikola Tesla was a young man, he migrated to New York City, United States in June 1884. With a letter of recommendation, he secured a job working for an American industrialist, Thomas Edison. Due to his vast understanding on electrical and mechanical engineering, Tesla was managed to solve many of Edison's scientific problems.
One of Nikola Tesla greatest accomplishment was the commissioning of the Wardenclyffe Tower project back in 1901. The Wardenclyffe Tower was located at Shoreham, Long Island, New York. It was a huge structure of its time measuring 94 feet high x 94 feet wide. The tower was designed by Tesla as a means to transmit wireless telephony across the Atlantic.
Back in the early 1900, such technology was revolutionary and it has many practical applications. Due to its limitless potential, the project was funded by a Wall Street mogul, J.P. Morgan.
The Wardenclyffe Tower was also designed by Tesla to show that power can be transmitted across land without the need for cables. However, when J.P. Morgan learned that the power transmission could not be metered for financial gain, he pulled his funding on the project. Without capital for the project, the construction soon came to a halt.
For some reason, many of Nikola Tesla design blueprints were never found. Many people believe there was a conspiracy by the government to hide his invention from the public. Most of Tesla generator blueprints seem to have vanished without a trace.
