An office environment is often prone to germs and sickness. For example, Ive heard three different people cough and sneeze within the past ten minutes. Make that four. If my peers are going to insist on coming to work while sick, I need to take several precautions to prevent myself from ending up on the sick train along with them. First, it is important that I use preventative measures for myself. I take daily vitamins to keep my immune system strong. During flu season, I start by getting my annual flu shot. Although I have heard about people having bad reactions to the shot, I have had no issues yet. If I feel like Im starting to get sick, Ill start to take medicine, and make sure to drink lots of fluids, especially orange juice. Second, there are also measures that I have to take in the office, where I have the greatest chance of picking up an illness. Washing hands is very important, not only in the bathroom. I make sure to use disinfectant on my hands after going to others desk, or using their phone or pens. I make sure that my desk is wiped off and clean of dust and other dirt. I try not to be paranoid, but good hygiene is always important. Finally, I just have to be smart about myself. I cant really control what my coworkers are doing, so I have to watch out for myself. Besides keeping clean, I have to make sure not to run myself ragged during the flu season. Its important to get an adequate amount of rest and not do too much. Its easy to get overtired and stress during the holiday season, which could lead to getting sick. Also, if youre not feeling well, stay home for work. Others may not follow this rule, but its best for you, and best for everyone in the office. No one wants to be sick for all the fun around the holidays.
