subject: Five Fun Ways To Keep The Bond Between Parents And Children Healthy [print this page]

Sometimes, parents forget that parenting is a hands-on activity that requires fresh, new ideas and lots of persistence in order to reach a good final outcome-a child that grows up to be a healthy (both physically and emotionally) individual, ready to tackle life with lots of energy and conviction. Sometimes, parents let routine take over and ultimately along with it complacency creeps up on inter-family relationships, ruining the dynamic within the home.

As a way to keep this from taking place in one's home and family, parents must be innovative and able to come up with creative ideas. This obliges parents to come up with different and exciting ways to engage children instead of beating the same plan and routine to death.

To give parents out there a bit of help, here we've come up with a list of five fun ideas for keeping kids engaged and happy at home and outside it. Give these ideas a shot and watch your parent-child bonds grow and develop in a positive direction.

1) Get your children involved in cooking at home! Make cooking a fun activity, not a dreaded chore, which means that you should get your kids to help out and participate on a day/night when you have enough time to avoid rushing. Entice your children into helping by offering to put together their favorite dish, but also be sure to try out cooking new things they've never tasted before. This has been known to help open children's minds and pallets up a little bit, meaning you need to worry less about what to make. The process will give them knowledge of practical skills and will make them appreciate the effort of cooking daily meals for the whole family.

2) Set up a family game night on the calendar or in your agenda, again only when you know you will be able to show up and not let your children down. Unfulfilled promises are hugely damaging, so don't incur any. If your child wants to include a friend in the fun, all the better--whatever it takes to get the most out of the event. Also, let your kids invent new games as a way to stimulate their imagination.

3) Go exploring with your kids! Don't loaf around the house all the time when you have some down time with your kids; get outside and do something new. Taking your kids for a canoe ride down on the nearby lake or river, a walk or bike ride through a nearby forest or to some sort of natural reserve or park will kindle their appreciation for the environment. Kids love to explore, and if you can teach them things as you explore they will come to respect you more and further appreciate the activity.

4) Put together a list of DIY projects to be done as a group. Don't allow any limitations here: anything from assembling radios to powering a home appliance with lemons or any sort of science kit related activity is a great way to go. These will help your kids stay alert, smart and full of curiosity.

5) Coordinate with your kid's friends' parents to organize a group outing for them all, with you as the leader. The agenda can be something as simple as taking the group to the bowling alley or as complicated as going on a camping trip; whatever the case, the group of kids will look up to you and that will come off on your child, reinforcing the bonds you share in a wonderful way.
