Albuquerque Vacations - Rio Grande Valley State Park

Starting from the Sandia Pueblo in the north, and running through Albuquerque to the south in Isleta Pueblo, the 4,300-acre park called the Rio Grande Valley State Park was set in 1983. The environment of this park is unique from New Mexico as it has cottonwood trees, coyote willow, and New Mexico olive creating which create a shady forest. This provides habitats for beavers, numerous bird species, turtles, and snakes. Hiking, bicycling, mountain biking, in-line skating and horseback riding can be ventured here after taking in the marvelous surroundings. The Paseo del Bosque paved trail is excellent for hikes as it runs along the east side of the river, or one can head out along the natural surface trail beneath the cottonwood trees. Boating, kayaks, canoes, rafts and other non-motorized water vehicles can be enjoyed here too. Places to see while at the park are the Rio Grande Open Space, Calabacillas, Arroyo, Shining River Parking Area, Rio Grande Nature Center, Peublo Montano Picnic Area and Trailhead, Rio Bravo Riverside Picnic Area, Fishing Pier and Nature Trail, Rio del Norte Picnic Area, and the Aldo Leopold Interpretive Trail and Forest. Rio Grande Valley State Park is a very pleasant state park running along the banks of the Rio Grande through Albuquerque and a place to visit for sure!
