subject: Successful PTA Fundraising [print this page]

Scenario: You have volunteered at your child's school for the past couple of years. You faithfully attend bake sales, car washes and carnivals sponsored by the PTA, and you have now offered to help with the upcoming fundraiser. While you will gladly do what it takes to help your child have a better education, you had no idea that you would be in charge of the whole thing!

Reason for On-coming Panic Attack: Everyone wants to know what this year's fundraiser is going to be and it better be good since last year Mrs. Mother-of-4-Whose-Hair-Is-Never-Out-Of-Place raised more money with her homemade chocolate chip cookies than the whole 3rd grade wrapping paper sales!

Wake-Up Call: You don't have to loose sleep over fundraising. You can get FREE brochures and supplies for a great fundraiser online or over the phone. Your fundraiser will be easy to organize and easy to execute! You can choose from several products cookie dough, pretzels, dessert items, flower bulbs, coffee and tea, candles, or environmentally-friendly products!

Solution: Find out how many people will be participating in the fundraiser. Decide which product makes the most sense to sell in your area for the kids that will be selling, and the adults that will be purchasing. Present the idea to the proper approval committee and call a fundraising coordinator to set up your sale! You will be asked when you plan to do the fundraiser (usually a 2-week process), so it may be handy to have a calendar ready.

Result: You will now go down in PTA History as the least-stressed, most-successful fundraising chair ever! Won't they have big shoes to fill next year.but you'll be willing to share your secret, after all it is your child's education!
