subject: The History Of A Dress [print this page]

Nobody knows for sure how a dress came to life. It must have been a simple cloth meant to cover the body which took different shapes and images. At list this is what the designers say. But who can know it better than the dress itself.

Let's ask a dress to tell us about its ancestors. First of all, the dress is going to jump from its hanger and try to enfold in order to show us how the other dresses in the past look like. I have asked a linen dress to tell me about its past and it started with the Ancient Egypt. It first rolled up several times and turned into a linen dress long enough to cover the ankles, with a knot under the breast.

The Indian women are well known for the dignity with which they wore their sari. Who would have thought that a simple piece of cloth can turn into such an intricate dress?

The way in which the cloth is wrapped up makes all the difference. For more complicated models, our dress turns into a long one, with a V-cleavage specific to the Middle Ages. At our request, a frock came up in front of us to exemplify the clothes of the women from the Ancient Greece.

The next page of any encyclopedia reveals a more complicated type of dress. A lot of material was in need for the crinoline to be covered and many ladies struggled with the painful corset in order to be in its favors.

From now on, one book is not enough in order to reveal the creative mind of the fashion designers. Long dresses with large hats, a lot of different materials brought from China or India embellished the human body. Famous designers created types of dresses which have remained fashionable even today. Who has not admired at least once the simplicity and the elegance of the little black dress combined with a string of pearls? Nowadays there are fashion parades everywhere in the world and hundreds or thousands of models of dresses are proudly presented on the stage next to elegant or comfortable trousers.

By the way, a pair of trousers which may be both comfortable and elegant is the linen trousers one. Just in case you want to buy it.
