subject: Pick The Perfect Tennis Racket [print this page]

The correct racket will compliment your game perfectly, give you more confidence and allow your skills to shine. Something as simple as the correct grip size can reduce discomfort and the risk of injuries too.

Power rackets are ideal for players with short or narrow swings, generating a fast ball speed off the racket. They tend to be lighter than other rackets and because of the higher manoeuvrability of a power racket they are ideal for serve and volley players.

A light and manoeuvrable power racket is ideal for those with either a narrow or short swing. If you are a serve and volley player then your game will benefit from a power racket that can generate a higher ball speed

A heavier control racket is perfect for those with a wider or longer swing. If you have no problem generating your own power then these rackets will round off your game with the addition of extra control.

Aspiring players that want a racket to cover all the bases should chose a hybrid racket. With a balance of power and control, the hybrid racket will give more confidence to make more difficult shots.

Midsize - 70 to 89 sq in Midplus - 90 to 105 sq in Oversize - 110 to 115 sq in Super oversize - 116 to 135 sq in

A smaller head is best for a more experienced players who can generate their own power. Larger head sizes by their very nature will have a greater string surface area and therefore a bigger "sweet spot" and are more forgiving, making them ideal for beginners

Each racket will be available in various grip sizes. If you chose the wrong size racket it will be uncomfortable and can lead to injuries. The grip size is based on the circumference of the racket handle and the grip sizes are as follows:

Grip 1 - 4 1/8" Grip 2 - 4 " Grip 3 - 4 3/8" Grip 4 - 4 " Grip 5 - 4 5/8"

Grip sizes are based on the circumference of the racket handle. If you have the racket in the wrong grip size it can be very uncomfortable. If you continue using the wrong grip size racket then you will almost certainly injure yourself.

To measure your grip size, grab the handle as if you are shaking hands with the racket. You should just be able to fit your index finger between the palm of your hand and the end of your fingers.

Grip 1 - 4 1/8" Grip 2 - 4 " Grip 3 - 4 3/8" Grip 4 - 4 " Grip 5 - 4 5/8

Grip 1 - 4 1/8" Grip 2 - 4 " Grip 3 - 4 3/8" Grip 4 - 4 " Grip 5 - 4 5/8"

Keep an eye out for special deals online including discounts on models from the previous year, as well as savings when you buy mulitple rackets. Even if you dont need two right now, it is always good to have a spare in case a string breaks mid-game.

Once you have the right racket, get out and enjoy it. I am sure that your tecjhnique will improve and you should start winning a few more games!
