subject: What Kind Of Joint Pain And Arthritis Are You Suffering With? [print this page]

Lots of people have trouble with some form of arthritis. For many of those people, the disease can become debilitating and interrupt their daily activities. While some have severe trouble with their hands there are others that cannot walk. Joint pain and arthritis is a serious condition and can lead to painful immobility. Three forms of this disease are most common: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and gout.

The form of arthritis named osteoarthritis is common in more women than men. It occurs when the protein cartilage between the bones in the joints deteriorates. Once this protein is worn away, the bones are able to rub together, which causes extreme pain and swelling in that joint. Aging greatly increases the chances of osteoarthritis.

Unfortunately, there is no specific kind of treatment for completely resolving osteoarthritis. Managing your weight and performing light exercises are great ways to help strengthen the muscles around an affected joint. Maintaining a lighter weight will help in keeping pressure off the joints. Some health care providers may use injection medication straight into the affected joint for lowering inflammation when your pain levels get high. Some might prescribe pain killers as well.

One of the most prevalent and most medically commented about form of arthritis is gout. Gout happens when the body cannot perform the process of uric acids properly. Uric acid builds up around the joints instead of doing the job it is supposed to in breaking down the purines in food. These build ups are crystallized and severely painful.

Treating one for gout will involve weight management and controlled diet as in other forms of arthritis. Always make sure you follow the orders your doctor has given you when it comes to gout. It is a chronic and progressive form of arthritis and doing what the doctor says can slow down this progression. You may be given pain killers or you might have a prescription for anti inflammatory medications. Gout can cause you not to be able to walk if it is in your feet. You might lose use of your hands if one or both is affected.

Many people suffer from rheumatoid arthritis. The immune is affected by this type of arthritis and it can affect even the organs in your body. Talking to your doctor about the blood tests that will need to be dome to correctly diagnose rheumatoid arthritis will be a good idea if you are experiencing pain in your joints more so than normal. You may need to receive treatment for it.

Blood tests can be done to make sure you do indeed have rheumatoid arthritis. Visiting your doctor for treatment of this arthritis can involve drawing fluid off the inflamed joint, a procedure called arthrocentisis. This can bring some relief for until the fluid builds back up. He or she may also give you anti inflammatory medications for pain. Both sides of your body can have this disease.

Researchers are working to find ways to help those that suffer with these and other types of joint pain and arthritis. Making sure to take care of your body through diet and exercise is one of the most important things you could do in treating and preventing arthritis.
