subject: Is Free Internet Your Connection Answer? [print this page]

There are many people that still rely on public spaces to get connected to the internet. The vote to have online access at home is pretty strong though. Because there are so many places to hop on the net around for free many people don't think there is a real pressing need to pay an internet provider at home. If you think about it, there are some pretty good arguments for staying online at home.

The so called free web service advertised in coffee shops, cafes or the chain restaurants, is usually not totally free. Using up their customer space, you will be expected to purchase at least some type of beverage while you surf on line. They are most likely expecting you to have a reasonably priced lunch while using the Wi-Fi connection. Also, if you stay too long during a busy run, you could easily wear out your welcome.

Some people like that they are sitting in a cafe surrounded by people while online. For others though this can be very distracting. If you actually have work to do then being engulfed in noise and activity can be very overwhelming. People that are basically just playing online won't be too worried about the distractions. They are enjoying themselves and probably making plans to get together for more fun. For work or study, it is important to have space and time.

If you are a working professional or student, with family and kids, finding the time to actually go to the free public access, might be out of the question; unless you are ok with taking away from quality family time, plus the expense of going there early in the morning or late in the evening. A Internet connection at home allows you to be home when you need to be and still have the option of working or studying in the comfort, safety and quietness of your own domain.

There are many ways to get hooked up to the internet at home. For people without cable, that have a phone, there is dial up service. It can be pretty slow, but is reliable. For those folks that don't have a phone line or cable there is always the option of satellite internet service. This is something that can bring the web to almost any location in the world.
