subject: Need For Home Security Systems And The Cities [print this page]

The need for home security systems and the cities mandate that safety measures must be maintained. Consideration must be given to the neighborhood where a person resides. Inner city residents display more visible security mechanisms, whereas residents of suburb communities elect security methods that are less obvious. The selection of the best security system to be installed depends upon how safe a person feels the environment is.

The neighborhood a person lives in will be a major element as to what type of security device to employ. If living in a high crime area, it is common to see evidence of security in the way of security bars placed on doors and windows. The bars that are visible can be a deterrent to an intruder simply because he realizes the difficulty of penetrating the bars. Seeing bars on doors and windows can give a neighborhood an eerie feeling, yet the use of metal bars will provide an extra measure of safety if forced to dwell there because of financial need.

The visibility of bars in itself can be an effective security system. The evidence of bars, however, can also be a signal that there are valuables inside the home. This could provide sufficient incentive for someone to feel inclined to make an attempt at entering in spite of the fact that bars are present.

Inside the home or apartment, entry doors are usually equipped with at least a single dead bolt lock. Some residents will install additional types of locks and peep holes for more security precaution. The extent of security methods utilized will reflect the level of safety one feels.

Homes in more upper scale neighborhoods use systems that cannot be detected. Alarm systems of this nature include sophisticated monitors, an alarm system and movement detectors. They are maintained by alarm companies. Since they are extra sensitive to motion, they can be easily set off in error, resulting in a false alarm. The doorways and windows to the home are wired to sensors that set off the alarm if entry is forced. The system box will notify the alarm company that security has been compromised.

Many individuals will improve their security with the addition of their four legged friend, their canine. Families will choose a breed because of its temperament, protective instinct and perceived fierceness. Animals like Rottweilers, Bull Dogs, German Shepherds or Dobermans share notoriety for their protective characteristics. Less menacing breeds like Chihuahuas, provide sufficient noise to alert its owner and create enough commotion to repel intruders.

The price of implementing safety measures is always considered when deciding on the type of security systems to utilize. The installation of security bars will require a one time expense, while using alarm systems generate ongoing monthly fees. The more sophisticated and elaborate the system, the more expensive it will be.

The challenge of living safely in the city makes it necessary to maintain safety precautions. The utilization of security systems can ensure that inhabitants live reasonably free from the acts of an undesirable element that would place their safety at risk.
