Foundation
This global organization was established back in 1983, even though talks of forming it were already on since 1981. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, California.
Objective
The main task of CPSR is to educate the policymakers as well as the general public on the various issues relating to the computer technology and its usage. The company was originally planted by the computer scientists of U.S. Currently the organization has members from more than thirty different countries and six continents.

This international organization, whose main motive is to educate the society on the various aspects of computer technology, also has an award for Social and Professional Responsibility. The award is known as the Norbert Wiener Award.
Publications
In the year 2002, the CPSR started publishing its monthly email newsletter The Compiler which is meant for its members. This was done with the sole motive of educating the members about the new CPSR opportunities, activities and news. The newsletter contains the news about the members, the initiatives of the board, events and conferences, chapters and press releases amongst other interesting information.
The CPSR also maintains a quarterly journal which is a highly regarded publication from the house. The CPSR Journal was printed in 1999 and now, the journal is available online as well. The past publications can be read online.
The CPSR also launched a paper in the year 2000 called Ping!. This also has its online version. The paper was rolled out to inform the world about the latest CPSR happenings.
