subject: Should You Up Your Marketing in a Recession? [print this page]

Should you up your marketing in a recession? We believe the answer is always yes. However, we would also like to add a few things that might enhance that answer. Here are three things you can do to beef up your marketing in a recession.

1) Cut the waste You are marketing now and you can't stop just because there is a recession. You can, however, take a look at what you are doing and see where you can trim off the fat. There are always things that we spend for in the good times, that don't look nearly as important when money is tight. Go back through all of your marketing expenditures and see if there is anything that can be cut.

2) Change your plans Your marketing plan was created when you were just getting started. There is a good chance that you made some assumptions on the market, based on the knowledge you had at the time. I am guessing, but I would venture to say that you have learned a few things about the process that may change your mind a little. Go back over marketing plans to see if there are areas that you can tweak for success.

3) Look to the internet The internet is a powerful thing. The methods for advertising can be much less than conventional marketing processes. Some of the best internet marketing efforts are completely free. There are so many opportunities on line for the savvy marketer to exploit. Do not overlook this venue to help you through the lean times.

Should you up your marketing in a recession? Absolutely! Getting a good plan together can help you succeed; even in a recession. The key is to understand how to capitalize on your efforts. A good mentoring and marketing system can make all the difference.
