subject: Seve Ballesteros Cancels St Andrews Appearance [print this page] Physicians have urged golfing legend Seve Ballesteros not fly to Fife in Scotland to attend the 150th St Andrews's affair , because they prefer he get some necessary time off .
In the end of 2008 doctors in Madrid located a brain tumour in Seve Ballesteros . He required four surgical procedures to keep the tumour from spreading , and then progressed to have chemotherapy. Ballesteros stepped down from competition golf during 2007, even though he could often be seen on the links golf course through 2008. He had desired to revisit the 'birthplace of golf' St Andrew's due to the fact that St Andrew's was one of the locations he won a major back in 1984, and a place close to his heart.
Seve Ballesteros had been invited to play the eve-of the Open four-hole Champions Challenge alongside 32 former champions. When referring to the matter via his website , he said that he had no choice but to follow the doctor's advice not to travel, and had decided to inform the public beforehand knowing fans might have been planning to travel to the Open to see him; and so , he did not want to let them down . He added that he was unhappy that he would miss seeing his followers , to whom he gave gratitude for their immense support through his entire career, and through his toughest time of all his illness. He revealed this information following a normal 3 month check up at the exact Madrid hospital where he was cared for in late 2008. A spokesperson stated , "The medical team have informed him this morning that at this time he should not put himself under any undue stress or in potentially emotional situations."
Golf fans should not be worried about this news, since they are assured that Ballesteros is doing well for a man who underwent four surgeries . However, the decision to cancel his trip to Scotland is a precaution. Dr Cristbal Belda said, "Despite the excellent general state that Mr. Ballesteros enjoys, we do not think the trip to Scotland this coming July would be appropriate." He followed the statement by saying that he felt some of the emotional situations that Ballesteros may come under may present a threat to his speedy healing .
