REDUCE LITTER BY RECYCLING PLASTIC BAGS
Consider the amount of plastic bags used by grocery stores, markets, and
restaurants each day. How many people come and go to shop and come home with
plastic shopping bags on both hands? Is not that a lot? There is an estimate
of 1 million plastic bags used per minute and that makes 500 billion to a
trillion plastics produced each year!
Factually speaking, these numbers are quite alarming since studies shows that
plastics are harmful to the environment. They pollute the air when burned, and
they poison animals when eaten, just to name a few.
One very helpful solution for this matter is recycling. If only people around
the world would recycle their plastic bags, then there will be less litter and
less damage to mother earth. There are lots of recycling ideas for a plastic
bag. Here are some tips to consider:
1.Plastic bags can be recycled as trash bags or trash liners. This would
definitely reduce litter around the house or anywhere else as it holds the
garbage in order and keeps waste bins clean. Different sizes of plastic bags
suits any kinds of trash.
2.Plastic bags can also be reused as shopping bags. No need to get a new
plastic bag from the store, just bring the old one every shopping. This would
minimize the consumption of new plastics, thus reducing plastic production.
3.Food bags are usually made out of plastics and this could also be recycled
around the kitchen. Instead of putting these plastics straight into the trash,
reuse them to store food that needs to freeze in the fridge. Food bags that
carry dry foods can still be used for repacking.
4.Another reduction of litter idea and at the same time recycling of plastic
bags is using them for backyard cleaning. These plastics, especially the large
ones, can carry dry leaves, branches from trees, and other organic wastes that
need to be disposed.
5.One can also be creative in recycling plastic bags by making them as crafts.
Dry cleaning plastic bags, for example, can be cut and made as rain coat or
apron. Huge black plastic bags can be stitched as car cover. Small ones can be
made as plant holder. And colored ones can be made as kite.
6.In addition to reducing litter around the house is packing up old clothes,
toys and books that are not anymore of use and better to be donated. Plastic
bags can be recycled to carry these stuffs, and because plastics are
stretchable and water resistant, one is sure that the items inside are sealed
and protected until delivered.
