If you're looking for a holiday destination where the fun just never stops, head to the Gold Coast, a beautiful city located in Queensland, Australia. With a plethora of events taking place, from concerts and exhibitions to sporting events and competitions, you can be sure that the Gold Coast always has something happening - and that's one of the reasons that thousands of tourists make this their holiday destination of choice every year.

As the Gold Coast is so well known as a popular surfing destination - the beach adjoining the city stretches for around seventy kilometres and includes sections with waves of as high as 300 metres - there are frequent surfing events taking place at various points around the year. If you're a surfing fan, you won't be disappointed by some of the amazing things you'll see at events such as the ASP World Tour of surfing, which brings together many of the world's surfing pros in competition at Coolangatta. Other sporting events include the very well-attended Gold Coast Marathon, which takes place every July and tends to see more than 16,000 competitors take part in the race. This marathon is the largest sporting event that occurs annually at the Gold Coast and is ideal if you've ever considered trying one out thanks to its position in the middle of the Australian winter. Finally, if you're a fan of car races, the Gold Coast Indy 300 takes place in October each year and you'll be able to catch the events at Main Beach and Surfers Paradise - something that is not to be missed if you want to catch a true slice of the Gold Coast's sporting culture.

When it comes to arts and entertainment, a good place to start is the Wintersun Festival at Coolangatte - though this will soon be renamed to Cooly Rocks On for 2011. This festival takes place over two weeks during June and includes 50s and 60s-inspired entertainment and attractions - free of charge - for the benefit of your own nostalgia. You'll be able to take in revival bands playing the hits of the era and enjoy a glorious atmosphere of peace, love and rock and roll for two weeks of fun.

There really is a great deal of Gold Coast events taking place year round, from sporting events to technological conferences and music festivals, so you can be sure that there's always something going on whenever you decide to visit this exciting and welcoming city.
