subject: Satellite Internet is the Insomniac's Dream [print this page]

Some people are lifelong insomniacs, suffering from the inability to sleep on such a regular basis that it does not even phase them anymore. They have their routines for what to do when they just cannot get to sleep, or when they wake up in the middle of the night knowing that they are up for the long haul. Maybe they make a cup of tea, or they grab a worn-out copy of their favorite book. Or they take the dog for a midnight walk, or write in their journals.

But for those experiencing a rare bout of insomnia or experiencing it for the first time figuring out how to pass those waking hours when everyone else is asleep can be frustrating and emotionally wrenching. Luckily, having access to satellite Internet in your home can make the hours fly by so much quicker than they would have ordinarily. You just have to know where to look to spend your time well!

First, you need to decide whether or not you want to be productive or distracted. If you want to be productive, you can use satellite Internet to catch up your work or personal emails. Maybe your inbox is filled with a number of requests from employees that you just have not gotten to yet. Now is the time to catch up on some of that work. If you feel awkward about having them receive something in their inbox at 3:52am, you can always write the email now, save a draft, and click send in the morning at a more appropriate hour. You can also catch up on personal emails with your satellite Internet connection an area that often gets neglected in busy people's lives. Finally reply to that birthday message your college roommate sent you; finally send your sister the pictures you took at Yom Kippur dinner.

If you want to be distracted as many people do during bouts of insomnia satellite Internet can be a resource, too. You can go on Facebook and peruse people's walls, update your satus, or write messages. You can also play online games until the cows come home (or the roosters begin to crow take your pick of farm animal metaphors!). These can include old favorites, or you can even discover new ones. Maybe you will be surprised to find out that most of your favorite card games have entire dedicated online communities! Now is the time to join. You can go to humor websites and read funny articles. You can watch viral videos that your friends sent you links to, but that you never found the time to click on and watch. You can also access regular television shows with satellite Internet. This is because so many networks have online video sharing services, so you can simply go to these websites and watch whatever content they have up and available for viewing. Online TV can be especially useful if you are hoping to get back to sleep, because you can bring our laptop into your bedroom and watch it as you drift off into la la land.
