subject: How to Inspect Hair Transplant Before and After Pictures [print this page]

Are you balding and considering going through a hair transplant? Have you seen pictures of men and women showing balding heads in ugly before pictures and stunning after pictures? And you would like to get those same results? But before you consult a doctor, beware. With our technology today, pictures can easily be edited. Everybody can use Photoshop and Illustrator, and not to mention camera tricks that can fool our eyes. So here are the ways to determine if these pictures are real or fake.

First, you have to inspect the pictures. If you have a good eye, you will see non-matching lines and colors on the skin and hair. Clone stamping (a Photoshop tool) is done by selecting a portion of the picture and copying it exactly in another position. If your eyes are untrained enough, then you cannot see the difference. If you really can't figure it out, then see if the position and appearance of the face in the before and after pictures are the same. If they are, it will be a clue that the pictures have been tampered with.

If the pictures are real, then check the angles and lightning. Pictures that are too dark will make the hair thicker. If the before pictures are lighter than the after pictures, then it is fake. Also see if the hair is wet, because wet hair will visually appear thinner than it should. Be careful because you might seeing wet hair in before pictures and very dry and with much volume hair in after pictures. Lastly, look at the camera angles. Some may have a top or side vies in the before pictures and a front view in the above pictures. These may fool people to think that the person in the picture has thicker hair afterwards, but in reality, without the change in the camera angle, he is still bald.

If you have to look for real before and after pictures, you have to see if the pictures have the same background and lightning. The facial expressions of the patients don't have to be really similar. Bigger pictures are more preferred. Look closely at the hairline and direction of the hair. If these look natural, then the doctor is excellent. Or better watch before and after videos, because videos are harder to alter.
