subject: Can I Pay For My Taxi Ride With A Credit Card? [print this page]

When you take a taxi ride, one of the things that people always worry about is making sure that they have enough money on them to pay for the cab. Taxi services however have come to the realization that more and more people are moving away from using just cash to pay for their everyday expenses. Instead, many people rely on a payment card of one kind or another to pay for things that they need every day, such as a cab. Because so many people use credit cards to pay for so many things, it is logical that many of them would also want to pay for their taxi ride using a credit card.

Taxi companies have by and large realized this, and made moves to accommodate it. In the past, it was simply too difficult for cab companies to process credit card orders in the car, because the technology was not where it is today. Now though, when every pizza delivery person seems equipped with a mobile terminal for electronically processing credit card orders, it has become clear that the technology exists to allow people to quickly process credit card orders from anywhere. This has led to many more taxis on the road that will accept credit cards as a method of payment.

If you're wondering if a taxi accepts credit cards or not, the easiest way to figure it out is to simply look on the side of the cab. Most cars that have the equipment to accept credit or debit cards will have the logos of the cards they accept displayed somewhere on the side of the car. Another thing to remember is that not all companies accept call kinds of credit cards, so be sure that your particular card is accepted.

Even though more and more taxi drivers are going to have the equipment that they need to process your credit card payment in the car with them when you go for a ride, it is still very wise to always make sure that you also have enough cash on hand to pay for the ride. Why is this? Well, even though most cabs now can accept credit cards, the technology is far from perfect. These units have errors quite often, and the mobile internet that they use to process their transactions can go down or be unavailable in certain areas. Always have a backup payment plan in mind.
