subject: Home Security-how To Prevent A Home Invasion-top Tips [print this page]

If you watch the evening news on a regular basis you are bound to become familiar with the term home invasion. Home invasion is a burglary on steroids. A burglary is usually done by one person who goes out of his way to make sure it's done when nobody is at home. The burglaries usually unarmed.

Home invasion on the other hand, to me at least, is much more serious. It is usually done by two or more people specifically when they know that people are at home , and they are usually armed.

Home invasions, at least in my neck of the woods, Colorado Springs, are the result of drug deals gone bad. Home invasions are serious crimes. The perps get what they want by intimidation, threats and violence.

Police stats show that most home invasions start at the front door with the occupants just opening the front door reflexively without seeing who is there. DUH! Once the door is opened an inch it is easy to get in then the trouble begins. Use your peephole folks!

Here are some more tips to prevent home invasions.

1.Remove potential hiding places, like darkened areas around your house by putting in motion activated spotlights.

2.Put out some warning sign like 'vicious guard dog On-duty.'

3.Reinforce your front door, making it harder to can kick in.

4.Install some window and door alarms.

5.Develop a contingency plan with your family in case someone does break in. That should include a foolproof way of dialing 911.

6.Become familiar with how to use self defense products likes pepper spray and stun guns and have some around the house.

7.If someone does break in keep your cool and stay calm.

If you use common sense and follow this checklist you will be well on your way to preventing home invasion.

If you think crime can only happen to the other guy you are wrong. The "other guy" is thinking the same thing and to him you are that "other guy". There is a reason why they call it self defense. You have to protect yourself, your family, your home and business!!

Chances are if you are reading this that crime has touched your life in some way or you consider yourself at risk. Take the next step and do something to protect yourself! Your home security is worth far more than the cost of some home security devices.

Be proactive and crank up your home's security today.
