subject: Bus Advertising Reaches Your Demographic For A Low Cpm [print this page]

Bus advertising media is an excellent way to reach the general public. Bus media are located on the exterior and interior of general public buses and college and university buses and shuttles. Because of their great visibility and low cost, bus ads produce impressions at a low CPM.

Bus ads comes in several forms: exterior bus advertising media, interior bus advertising media and college bus advertising media. And all forms of bus media are effective in communicating an advertiser's message to its target demographic.

With the growth of DVR use (e.g., TiVo), bus signs are growing in popularity. Because the target demographic can't fast forward through a bus display, like they can with a TV commercial, bus ads are highly effective in getting large numbers of gross impressions.

Bus advertising is also effective in reaching a captive audience. Bus riders are usually on board a bus for about 15 to 30 minutes, during which they are often bored and look around and view and read the displays in their vicinity. For that reason, bus signs succeed in communicating a message to a captive audience.

All types of advertisers use bus displays to get the word about their products and services, including Fortune 500 companies, federal and state government agencies and nonprofit organizations.

For example, the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA) advertised on the interior of buses in 124 cities in 2009 to promote its Suicide Prevention Hotline. The campaign was highly successfuly and resulted in many saved lives. The VA recognized the value of interior bus advertising because veterans ride buses and see the ads
