subject: "what Sells Well On Ebay?" [print this page]

Everyone who has ever thought about using eBay to make some money has considered the question; "What sells well on eBay?"

Most people sell off their surplus junk when they first discover eBay but when this runs out they are left with a dilemma, "What do I sell now to keep this new and very welcome income stream coming in?"

Of course, the next question that you should ask yourself is "can I obtain a regular and cheap supply of it?"

A product that answers both the questions "what sells well on eBay?" and "can I obtain a regular and cheap supply of it?" is............ information.

If you stop and think about it, information is a commodity that everyone on the planet needs and if you can present the right information to the right people you have the basis of a long term, sustainable business.

Finding out what information people want is simply a case of researching eBay and identifying popular niches. I use eBay Pulse (there is a link to 'site map' at the bottom of your 'My eBay' page) this gives a list of the most searched terms in each of the many eBay categories, so the answer to "what sells well on eBay?" is very easy to find.

Having identified what sells well on eBay you need to find the material to package for sale to your customers and a little known but very profitable way of doing this is using public domain material.

Selling public domain information is a very under-the-radar way to make very consistent, steady profits on a product that costs a seller virtually nothing to pull together and sell.

There are some public domain sellers working on eBay who earn hundreds of dollars, if not a thousand dollars or more, per day. It actually costs sellers nothing to put those products together.

The first question you probably have is: what is public domain?

To be straightforward, public domain is simply old information that was at one time published and copyrighted, but copyright protection has long since expired; as a result, there is no longer any law regarding its use.

But how do you know if the publication is in the public domain?

-- All items published in the USA before 1923 are in the public domain.

-- Items published in the USA between 1923 and 1963 are in the public domain 28 years after publication unless their copyright is renewed.

-- All material published by the US government is in the public domain.

-- In the UK, copyright expires on the 70th anniversary of the end of the year that the creator died. (for example; if the creator died on 27th March 1910, copyright expires on the 31st December 1980)

And remember that we aren't just talking about old books here, the public domain comprises;

--Books

--Works of Art

--Illustrations

--Music

--Sheet Music

--Magazines

--Videos

Are you beginning to see the huge possibilities here?

If an item is in the public domain, you can use the information in whatever way you want, including selling the information in any format. You can compile the information together into a collection, for example, or burn it all onto a CD and sell it. There are numerous uses for information thats in the public domain.

One of the more popular public domain sites that you can go check out is Gutenberg.org. There you will find a whole host of information, products, books, titles, and poetry thats in the public domain.

Your cost is nothing more than the cost of burning DVDs. You can even have that done by someone else and have it completely outsourced, automating your business entirely.

This is all very possible, and its all being done every day by people who understand the rules of the game when it comes to selling in the public domain.

This is an exciting opportunity, and a great stream of income that anyone can establish and automate.

This is a hugely powerful concept so when will you make time to explore it further?
