Now that you've decided that a free VPN just isn't worth the hassle, the question is how much to pay. Different services offer different packages and free VPN trial periods. This is a good way to find a service that works for you. Everyone's net connection speed is different and for al I know rules may apply differently in different places in China. I tried vpntunnel for one month and found that it often cut out and was very slow. Sometimes nearly impossible to get on Chinese sites. It was just as bad as the free VPNs! After a month of regretting that five Euros (seven dollars) I switched to 12vpn. I haven't had a problem. Ever. It's always been fast, never cut out, and I've never run into a site it couldn't unblock. Even though its not a free VPN, it's worth throwing down a few dollars for the service. I'm usually careful about turning it on only when I need it so I just signed up for their 30 dollar per year service which limits you to 10000 MiB. I'm not completely sure what it is but I know that the more video you watch or upload/ things you download the more you use. I've never come close to using all of it up but I generally don't download music/movies from western sites and the Youtube vids/ BBC vids have not really used up THAT much. If you're a torrent junkie you might want to consider their 60 dollar unlimited version.
Think about it. All the time you could spend jumping around different free VPN sites that may or may not be around tomorrow you could spend looking at friend's photos on Facebook. Thirty dollars a year is less than three dollars a month. 20 RMB if you want to talk about those already here in China. Ok, 20 kuai can go a long way in China if you go to the right places, but you get the point. It's not a free VPN, but were talking 20 kuai per month here!
