subject: Hotels in Trujillo Honduras - Why Vacationing in the Carribbean Should Safe and easy [print this page]

Hotels in Trujillo Honduras - I enjoy vacationing inside the Caribbean. My spouse and i work hard all year and deserve the break of our dreams and nothing makes your dreams come true just like a little piece of paradise. I understand that countless other Americans feel the same way and that's why we go to the Carribbean en mass come holiday time. Clear blue skies, pristine white seashores and gently swaying in a hammock with a bottle of ice cold beer - sounds like paradise to me. Which is the reason I have become more and more frustrated with my holiday being interrupted by demands for money, offers of drugs and having to watch my things every second of daily. Which is in fact what got us considering other options, namely Honduras.

Honduras Eco Tours

This situation is even worse in some resorts, a friend of mine vacationed in Jamaica and was advised by other guests to only embark on official tours. I know that resorts have been developed to give you all you need but I also want to be able to explore the local area without worrying every five minutes about being mugged. Yup, we holiday in the Carribbean for the climate and the beaches, but the region has so much more to offer than that.

As a result for this year's holiday I began to explore alternative Carribbean spots. My logic was that part of the trouble with more established destinations is that residents had begun to rely on the tourist trade entirely for earnings. While that has led to some very nice and interesting services being offered by local people I wanted something somewhat different. Which means this year we went to Honduras.

Honduras is actually generally overlooked accepted when it comes to the Bay Islands, but the north coast of Honduras has beaches, turquoise seas and palm trees galore. Enough to satisfy even the most Carribbean obsessed among us! The two of us stayed at a beautiful little resort in the Trujillo Bay area about 40 minutes from central Trujillo. Rather than a hotel, the resort offers private beach houses. Private renting offers so much more privacy and space than hotels and the affordability of accommodation in Honduras meant the Cabana actually cost less than our hotel room the year before.

I was also amazed at the different dynamic that tourists have with the locals in Honduras. Maybe we lucked out at Banana Beach, but at no time did both of us have those uncomfortable moments when people asked you for money, or even constant requests for drinks. This wasn't because the resort was isolated in any way - far from it. Banana Beach typically is situated really close to a group of Garifuna towns and the resort bar always received a great mix of people from the geographic area.

We both also felt safe when we went exploring in the daytime and the evening. When we visited the nearby towns of San Antonio and Santa Fe, people were helpful and curious. There was a genuine wish to speak to you much more about their culture, which has a rich and proud tradition. We went out for lunch and drinks a few times in Trujillo itself and at no time were the two of us worried about being mugged. I'm not saying crime doesn't happen, there were security at the resort at night like anywhere else, but we did not feel targeted as tourists. My husband and I came away from the experience with full intentions to return next year.

And so if you are becoming tired of Carribbean tourist traps, give the people and hotels in Trujillo Honduras a try, I thoroughly recommend them!
