subject: Discovering Acne Treatment That Works [print this page]

Just because acne is common doesn't mean that it is well understood. It also affects social life and well being of millions of people. Why does it happen to some people even after the teenage years? I'll try to address some of the truths about acne that can help when you try to cure it.

Maybe you are confused. It seems like no one truly understands acne. Often what you find is contradictory to what you read elsewhere. Why is it so tricky? What is the true cause of acne? What is so hard about clearing the skin?

Unfortunately, the causes of acne vary. Perhaps you could say that everyone is different. That is why one treatment that works well may fail completely for another person. Although some products are claiming to be an ultimate solution, those are just marketing ploys.

Before going for any particular treatment, it helps if you identify the real cause. You may heard it before that acne can be prevented by washing the skin regularly. That is far from the truth. It may trigger it though by clogging the pores and at the same time excess oils and bacteria happen to develop.

It goes tricky if the problem has something to do with hormones. Certain kinds of drugs are also known to cause acne breakouts. However, consult your doctor before deciding to stop consuming it.

Some experts believe that contrary to what we think, acne is not caused by any particular food or diet style. Still, some people are so sure about it. The truth is somewhere in the middle. Food has the potential to trigger acne. So unless you know the cause, it doesn't help if you just blame it on certain food.

Your genes control your skin type. Some people are more prone to acne breakouts than others. Other causes include, but not limited to, immune system and hormonal issues that are specific to an individual.

When using over the counter acne treatment, some people reported positive results while others barely see any change at all. Again, if your acne condition is severe, using such product may not bring any satisfactory results because the underlying problems remain untouched.

Over the counter acne product treats the symptom. Just like when you exercise, get enough sleep, hydrate your body and avoid stress. Those are things you can do to minimize the risk. Well, there may not be any direct impact. However, as you get rid of the cause, acne often disappears altogether and never recurs.

Because acne is so complex, you may find it difficult to determine the the cause of acne. It may be a sign of other problems that may not be so obvious unless you do complete medical checkup. Bottom line is, clear skin is not only about taking care of what you see but also what lies within.
