subject: What Is Helicopter Courier Service? [print this page]

Not everything that has to be sent through a courier can afford to roll along at a leisurely pace on the ground. There are deliveries that a bay area courier may be called upon to make that absolutely must reach their delivery as soon as possible. This often requires the use of airlines to aid in the delivery, or sometimes, even helicopter service.

Using helicopters as part of the courier industry has been established practice for several years now. They are fast, quick to load, and can leave at a moment's notice. Helicopters are extremely maneuverable, and can land in many locations outside major airports, giving them much more flexibility when it comes to making important deliveries.

A good example of this is when helicopters are used to make emergency medical deliveries. They are often used in this capacity. For this reason, many major hospitals in the largest cities will have helipads on their roofs. This allows for the emergency transportation of goods such as organs or blood immediately to the transplant or transfusion site, providing better care to the patients concerned.

Businesses also use helicopter courier service. This is a very expensive service that is only going to be used by the largest companies around, but for them, this is often a worthwhile expense. In any industry where time and money seem to be the same thing, the savings incurred by shipping with helicopter speed can more than make up for the expense.

Helicopter courier service is also used to make deliveries to locations that aren't easily accessible by other means. A good example of this is certain off shore drilling platforms. If they ever have an emergency and need something delivered from the shore, the only other way to do so would be by boat, something that would certainly take many times longer to deliver anything to the platform.

Depending on the size of the courier, they may either have a branch of their own division that specializes in making deliveries by helicopter, or they may have a helicopter company that they partner with. That allows even some smaller courier companies to provide a helicopter delivery option to their customers without having to experience the cost of both owning a helicopter and paying pilots to be on staff full time. There are couriers through that have full time helicopter service, especially those in the medical industry, as this is one of the largest clients of any helicopter delivery service.
