subject: Ways To Find Sources For Your Story [print this page]

Many fledgling authors experience challenges as they try to decide what to write about. This annoyance is totally justified as many of them have a lot of talent, they just crave to produce something good.

The first step to decide on the right angle for you is to write often. If you free write a little bit every single day, and write on whatever happens to cross your mind at the time, you will develop your brain to release that creativity and flexibility to make a great novel.

These daily writing exercise will cause your brain to start to think in ways that are good for novel writing. Once a little time has passed, your mind will start thinking about ideas for projects down the road.

In all actuality, all you are doing is increasing your chances by increasing the number of ideas that will eventually work.

Maybe it will help to think of just little situations instead of a whole plot for your novel. Look at how life dishes little issues, and write about those things.

After this, start pulling apart these situations and start to ask questions. While you are expanding on these things, enough material can emerge to fill the whole novel, one moment at a time. Consider how the circumstances develop and what the character did to get involved.

Look at how the situation can be dealt with and resolved. Think about the other people involved and how they are in relationship to the story. This lets you develop your characters and the story at the same time, and that brings you a little nearer towards finishing your book.

If you are struggling with coming up with the amount of content you would like to see, think about teaming up with a writing partner. Working collaboratively can help ideas and inspiration explode, and this can contribute to more material being developed.

This teaming up of creative minds can be very synergistic and you may be surprised that the to of you together are more effective than alone. Try not to be too stiff and formal, and think of these times as fun jam sessions where creative ideas can flow freely.
