By raising public awareness, training law enforcement forces, and improving the victim assistance programs, the DHS Blue Campaign seeks to combat human trafficking.
Secretary Napolitano is of the opinion that the mission of combating human trafficking will be shared by the Department's federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement forces, governments across the globe, non-profit and non-governmental organizations,l}Y)onities from around the country. She also believes that the DHS Blue Campaign will help in bringing out the human traffickers to justice and also assist victims.
The Blue Campaign was jointly launched by John Morton, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director, Ken Keene, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Deputy Director, Alan Bersin, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner, Alice Hill, Senior Counselor to Secretary Napolitano, and Alejandro Mayorkas, Director U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
In order to assist the citizens in recognizing and reporting indicators of human trafficking, a set of public outreach tools have been launched by the Department. The outreach tools include social media, public awareness campaigns in multilanguages, and the launch of a website, www.dhs.gov/humantrafficking.
The DHS Blue Campaign also takes up initiatives to train law enforcement forces and DHS personnel, to provide improved victim assistance, and to establish new partnerships and collaboration among the agencies, apart from the outreach tools. Further, there is also placement of victim assistance specialists going on as a part of the campaign.
