What are turtle doves exactly? Most of us are familiar with the song, Twelve Days of Christmas, where the turtle doves are mentioned as being one of the gifts. But how many of us have actually seen turtle doves close up? When most of us think of doves, we usually picture the white colored doves that are a symbol for peace. But, turtle doves are another kind of dove that has nothing to do with the doves that hold the stereotype. These doves do not really look like those white doves even though they are still in the same family of birds. Turtle doves are located in parts throughout Europe and in Turkey and other countries. They are not found in other parts of the world where other dove-family species are found. Turtle doves are also known as migratory birds because they move to warmer climates during the cooler months. These birds cannot survive in really harsh, cold climates. However, it is important to notes that the turtle doves are not as plentiful as they once were. With modernization, much of the birds traditional plants, such as Fumitory, or not as abundantly found. Therefore, the turtle doves cannot survive. This phenomenon is happening to a lot of other plant and animal species, not just the turtle doves. If this is the kind of situation that really bothers you, there are some things you can do. First, you can be aware that there is a problem and spread the news to those around you. Even if you do not live an area where there are turtle doves, you can take it upon yourself to adopt another animal to bring attention to. Or, you can travel to the place where the animal you want to save is. Study the reasons why the population is in decline and then try to educate others. In order to help make people understand why they should save the turtle doves from population decline and maybe even extinction it is important to do your research. Why is it that the population has fallen? What does this mean for the rest of the climate?
