subject: Internet Affiliate Marketing - Scam Or Viable Business Opportunity [print this page]

Internet affiliate marketing has gotten a bad name and has been called a scam by people looking for work from home jobs. There are certainly scams out there but internet affiliate marketing has legitimate marketing programs. Usually internet affiliate marketing programs are called either a scam or legitimate based on the expectations of the affiliate marketers. This article discusses the internet affiliate marketing and whether it is a scam or a viable business opportunity.

Internet affiliate marketing is a business that involves getting paid for promoting and/or selling a merchant's products or services as well as for promoting the program to other potential affiliates. When a sale is made, you make a commission and the merchant earns a profit.

It is a given that most of people who sign up for internet marketing programs or network marketing have no idea what they are getting in to. They simply sign up because someone unrealistically raised their expectations about how much they were going to make and how quickly they were going to make it.

We all know in the back in our heads that there simply is no get rich quick scheme out there. The growth of any business depends on the effort, the amount of time spent on the business and the talent and perseverance of the business owner. Those who make claims against the validity of internet marketing programs and other online businesses that allow you to earn from home, do so because they expect to join the program and simply sit back or execute a few half-hearted attempts at marketing the program to others or selling a product or service.

When these weak attempts do not bring in any money, they simply give up and call the program a scam. If you are expecting to get rich quick with internet marketing programs, you are in for a rude awakening and you should probably look for a 9 to 5 job. A home based business in internet affiliate marketing will take time and effort.

Before you join one program after another, perform your due diligence. Beware of "internet gurus" touting one program after another. They are the ones who get rich from the money that you give them for one program after another until you become jaded and call every program a scam.

Before you join any program you need to ask yourself whether the company is able to deliver the goods and services as well as the potential profits or commissions that it claims. If you are promoting products, you may want to try some of the products first before you decide to promote them. You also need to see how long the business has been in operation and check with the Better Business Bureau to see what kind of complaints the business has.

Internet affiliate marketing is merely a business opportunity and not a guarantee of wealth or success just like any other business. The simple fact is that your level of success will usually depend on you and how much time and effort you put into the business.

There are a lot of reasons that some people succeed and some fail in any business and internet affiliate marketing or network marketing is no exception. People have different talent levels, commitment and focus varies, different time and money resources, varied knowledge levels, different personalities, contacts, circumstances, etc.

If you want to make money on the internet and be successful at home jobs, you need to use your common sense and find out about the program before you join. Do not get caught up in and deceived by get rich quick promises. Put in the time and effort when you determine that the program is viable and do not expect immediate results. Be focused on your goal and persevere.
