subject: Things To Keep In Mind When Buying New Furniture [print this page]

Many people find that moving can be quite stressful, especially for people who are moving for the first time. When you are moving into a tiny apartment, this can be even more stressful for you. What type of furniture should you purchase? How will you be able to buy the furniture you would like? Most of all, how can you possible fit furniture into a tiny apartment? Here are a few things you consider:

Before choosing which type of furniture you should buy, you need to think about the guests you will have over and housemates as well.

When you and another person are sharing an apartment, you also need to take their needs into consideration. You should match the furniture with their particularly needs as well. If your budget is tight, both of you should pitch in on the furniture.

You need to think about the amount of guests you will have over and whether or not you are planning on doing any entertaining. Maybe you can get away with having a small table in the kitchen rather than a very large one.

It's important to take space into consideration. Will your furniture be able to fit into the amount of space you have available?

You should always try to plan in advance. By measuring your available space, you can decide what size furniture you can fit into the given area. You don't want to block your doors, outlet, drawers or windows. Try making a simple sketch of the room and draw a picture of how you would like to lay the furniture out.

Your housemate may even have some unique ideas of where to place furniture. It's very considerate to discuss your options in furniture with your roommate.

You can make an area of space appear much larger with some effort. By choosing furniture which is multi-functional, you can create needed space. Your coffee tables and end tables should have storage space and drawers, for example.

You can buy smaller chairs which can be rearranged instead of placing a very large couch in your living room. By having smaller pieces of furniture, you will be able to rearrange as often as you like.

For any person living it an apartment, it is very helpful to have furniture that has small drawers.

More than likely if you are renting an apartment which is small in size, you probably don't have large amounts of cash on hand for furniture. There are some pieces of furniture you shouldn't use your spare money on either. A nice reading chair, a comfortable bed and a computer desk are necessities.

By purchasing used furniture, you can cut costs tremendously. If you have plans of buying coffee tables along with an end table, you can buy just the coffee table initially. You can always buy more furniture at a later time.

Don't let buying furniture overwhelm you. There are many affordable options available. Take your time and get just a few pieces at a time. It will all come together soon enough.
