The most current installment in the Transformers saga hit store shelves on June 22, 2010 - as a video video game, that is. Activision's take on the Transformers story line concentrates on what might be regarded as a "pre-quel" of sorts, or an origin story of how the leader from the Autobots rose to his revered reputation.

Prime Before His Time -

Lovers of the Transformer's animated series in the eighties, and by extension Hollywood's most up-to-date revision from the tale, will instantly identify the difference in the new/young Cybertronian Optimus Prime. For beginners the video game's story is set on the transformer's home planet, Cybertron, ravaged by the war between Decepticons and Autobots.

Instead of the conventional big-rig Optimus Prime, Activision opted to give the leader with the Autobots a unique alternative form than enthusiasts are accustomed to seeing. The "younger" prime takes the form of an armored vehicle fitted with cannon ready to blast.

Origin Of A Hero -

The plot of War for Cybertron takes place well before the Autobots come into contact with people and in a sense fills in storyline holes found in the 1980s cartoon series which began the Transformers saga. Optimus Prime's mission in the video game is to rally the Autobots to help save planet Cybertron from Megatron as well as the Decepticons since the leader of the Autobots, Zeta Prime, is reported to have fallen in combat.

The Cybertronian Optimus Prime becomes, in some sense, forced into a situation of leadership to test his mettle. Rather than the self-assured, powerful leader observed from the television show and big-dollar silver screen production, Activision's portrayal of Optimus Prime concentrates around the hefty burden and sacrifice of management. You might say that Optimus Prime, like a young, novice general, is promoted before he is prepared.

Prime On New Platforms -

The primary core of Transformer fans, at the end of the day, most probably will continue to be devoted to the franchise and buy into the video game's storyline. Activision, to see to it that enthusiasts do, has licensed the War for Cybertron on all video game platforms like Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo's Wii and DS.

So far both the video game and action figures have gotten fine ratings from buyers, but in all fairness, a lot of Transformer hardcores point out the video game play in the game itself simply leaves something to be desired. Overall, Activision's latest take on Optimus Prime works nicely. RESOURCE>> Tranformers Optimus Prime Store
