subject: Teak Exterior Furniture - Reason Why Getting Teak Patio Furniture Is An Essential This Season [print this page]

Teak Outdoor furniture is a very dense coarse-grained hardwood that grows in Southeast Asia, Africa and of late being grown on agricultutal areas in Central America. Teak wood is normally straight grained, but sometimes has the rare wave, with an unleveled texture.

Teak wood contains high levels of silica, which results in a rapid dampening of sharp edges. Unlike other woods, which contain levels of silica in their bark, teak contains high levels of silica throughout. When teak is newly cut, the surface of the wood is dull, and the timber has a lovely aromatic fragrance that smells somewhat like leather.

Freshly sawn teak has a slightly 'oily' feel to it due to the excessive oil substance. And one of the biggest truth about teak wood and making it perfect for exterior furniture is the fact that it's so strong owing to it's high content of rubber and oil which is present naturally in the wood.

In addition, with the greater levels of resinous oil and silica existing in the timber, they help it act as a natural termite resistant, which gives the timber a high resistance to being spoiled by termites and other wood boring bugs.

Teak is also resistant to water and other compounds, like acids. It doesn't have a strong effect when it comes in contact with metals.

If teak outdoor furniture is being planned, teak exterior furniture is the answer. But in your search of teak furniture, make sure it is of Grade A European quality and has been suitably kiln dried.

Then observe keenly the quality and fit of the joinery (seams) of the piece of teak outdoor furniture you are going to buy. Confirm the thickness of the lumber, look carefully at the base of the piece, and remember, the fit and surface of the portions you can see state a lot about the parts you cannot see.
